The New Orleans Imperative – Monday July 1, 2019

In 2012, then Louisiana Governor Jindal pushed through the Legislature a state-wide school voucher program labeled the Scholarship Program. With the school reformer$ usual hype Jindal projected an unprecedented academic success for students, struggling in failing public schools, who could now use vouchers to attend private and parochial schools across the state. As usual the program, like the other school reform programs, has been a failure. Present Louisiana Governor Bel Edwards responded to recently published study from the University of Arkansas by calling for immediate evaluation of the Louisiana Scholarship Program. The study stated  that after 4 years the results continue to be disappointing ….Students in the voucher program continue to do worse than they would have if they had stayed in their original public schools.

Researcher and Michael Deshotels will share the dismal results for students attending private and parochial schools in the Louisiana Scholarship Program.
